I have been fascinated by the Natural World since I was a very small child.

Before first light on a Sunday, my Father and I would tiptoe out of the house to avoid waking my Mother and Sister. He would drive us to Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire, find somewhere secluded and set up his easel to paint. I would then wander off on my own and explore Sherwood Forest. I was 8 and in heaven.

I learned two important life skills in those times. How to navigate in the woods and how to approach and observe the wildlife without impacting on their behaviour. These were the days of abundant Red Squirrels and, sadly, Myxomatosis in Rabbits.

I was already lapping up the wildlife films of Hans and Lotte Hass, Hugo Van Lawick, Alan Root, Jacques Cousteau and of course, David Attenborough. I daydreamed of being able to film wildlife like they had.

After two or three hours of stalking my favourite animals and birds, I would make my way back to the car, where Dad would have a kettle perched on a Brass Primus Stove, making tea. These were some of the best days of my childhood.
